House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy held a press conference to outline goals for Congress moving forward. While speaking to reporters Thursday, he began by highlighting the work of the Trump administration over the past four years and touting the greatest American economy seen in a generation.

McCarthy went on to say that even though there was a party shift in Washington, the problems lawmakers need to address still impact America. He then pointed to opening America back up and getting kids back in school.

“Americans need our help at home and that’s where our focus must remain…that means Congress needs to step up as well,” he stated. “But instead, I just heard the majority party is now telling us to go home…one day into a new administration…already canceling a scheduled work week.”

McCarthy emphasized the need for unity and said the left is already heading in the wrong direction. Nonetheless, he noted Republicans are ready to get to work for the American people.
