White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the rising crime rate in cities such as Chicago would “not turn on a dime.” In a press briefing on Monday, Psaki was asked about White House efforts to combat crime in the Windy City.
Reporters cited 12 killings among around 70 people who were shot just over the weekend. Psaki noted the Justice Department has been actively working to control Chicago’s gun problem along with helping local elected officials, which she said benefited from Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
“When there’s been rise in crime rates across the country including Chicago for 18 months or more, that unfortunately is not going to turn on a dime.,” she stated. “We are working with Chicago. Its one of the five cities we’re working with.”
Psaki went on to say she hoped federal and local governments would work in partnership to bring the crime wave down. This comes almost a year after the city voted to cut the police budget by more than $59 million.
Here’s what liberal mayors are spending on private security for protection from their own crime-wrecked cities:
❌Chicago Mayor: $3.4 million
❌San Francisco Mayor: $2.6 million
❌Baltimore Mayor: $3.6 million
They’ll defund the police for you but not for themselves.
