Former Secretary of State Colin Powell recently spoke out on the widespread unrest facing the nation. During an interview Sunday, he said division can be overcome and cited the progress America has made in the last 50 years with the Civil Rights Movement.
Powell then pointed out that Americans have faced these issues before and he’s confident we will prevail.
“I think we are somewhat divided now, but I think we have to keep moving on…I mean, we’ve come so far in the last 50 years,” he stated. “Sixty-years ago, when I entered the United States Army, nobody thought I could ever become chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but I did and so a lot has happened.”

Powell said the nation needs to focus on providing quality education for children and adults as well as better job opportunities for all Americans.
“We are a much better nation now, we’re living better than we did then, but there’s more to be done,” stated the former secretary of state.
