President Trump has stated governors need to let faith leaders reopen places of worship this weekend. He made the remarks at the White House on Friday, when he deemed churches, synagogues and mosques as “essential places that provide essential services.”
According to the president, it’s not right that governors have allowed liquor stores and abortion clinics to reopen, but have left out houses of worship. He added faith leaders love their congregations and will make sure they are safe as they gather to pray in their houses of worship.
President Trump then slammed governors by saying, “If there’s any question, they’re going to have to call me, but they’re not going to be successful in that call.”
“The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important, essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend,” he stated. “If they don’t do it, I will override the governors.”

This comes as faith leaders in various states, including California, are planning to reopen their churches in defiance of lockdown restrictions. President Trump also recently announced CDC guidelines on reopening places of worship, which he said could be available as early as Friday.
