According to Gill’s family, the incident occurred in the 900 block of K Street NW at around 5:45 p.m. local time on Monday.

Police say that Gill was abruptly shot before he stumbled to get out of his car. He then fell on to the sidewalk and passed out.

The family later sent a statement to FOX 5, where Gill was described as an “amazing husband, father, friend and colleague.”

“Mike is an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague. He has a wonderful sense of humor, no matter the situation. He makes friends with everyone – and is always looking for opportunities to bring people together and make them feel included and loved,” the family wrote. “His warmth and kindness have touched the lives of many, evident in the outpouring of love and support his family has received during this difficult time.”

They continued, expressing that Gill is “a catalyst for unity and friendship.”

Gill’s carjacking incident was one of several that occurred in a recent violent wave of reported armed carjackings in D.C. and Maryland, according to officials from the Metropolitan Police Department.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, just two hours later, police said that the same gunman had attempted to carjack another person nearby.

The gunman purportedly approached two people on the sidewalk about ten minutes later and demanded that they give up their car, holding the pair at gunpoint.

After hesitation, the suspect shot one man and forcibly stole his 2016 Chrysler 200, before taking off. According to police, the stolen Chrysler 200 was later found in a Prince George’s County, Maryland, neighborhood park.

It is believed by authorities that the suspect ditched the car before robbing a driver of a Toyota Camry.

Additionally, police also claimed that the accused carjacker ordered a rideshare pickup and then stole the driver’s Nissan Rogue after leaving the Camry.

A Maryland State Police trooper who was assisting a disabled vehicle along an Interstate was shot at by the suspect at around 2:30 a.m. in the morning. However, fortunately, no officer was injured when the police vehicle’s hood was hit by gunfire.

The officer also later maintained that he was able to give a description of the car.

After collaborating with local and state authorities to identify the suspect, New Carrollton police officers in Prince George’s County shot and killed the suspected gunman early on Tuesday when they confronted him and he refused to stand down or submit himself to authorities.

According to the former Trump admin’s LinkedIn profile, Gill worked at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission during the Trump administration.

Gill is currently the Housing Policy Council’s senior vice president for capital markets. Their website describes themselves as “a trade association whose members are among the nation’s leading mortgage originators, servicers, insurers & data/settlement service providers.”

He is now being hospitalized and is said to be in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.

The identity of the suspect is currently unknown. The criminal investigation is still ongoing.
