On Wednesday, 46-year-old Illia Kyva, a former member of Ukraine’s parliament who had called for Kyiv to surrender when Russian troops invaded the country in February 2022, was found dead near Moscow.

Russia’s state investigative committee had been began looking into the murder allegations.

Kyva was “done,” according to Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence, who also stated that “the same fate will befall other traitors of Ukraine and accomplices of Putin’s regime” in televised remarks.

He was elected to parliament in 2019 after fighting against separatist rebels backed by Moscow in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.

Following his journey to Moscow, Kyva was a regular guest on Russian state television talk shows, where he has previously attacked the Ukrainian government. He was found guilty of treason last month and given a 14-year prison term by a Ukrainian court.

The murder of Kyva comes after other assaults on well-known Russian war supporters.

In April, Vladlen Tatarsky, a prominent Russian military blogger was killed by a bomb that was planted in a bust depicting him.

Zakhar Prilepin, a pro-war activist and writer from Russia who fought in Ukraine, sustained injuries in a car bombing in May.

According to Russian authorities, they blame Ukrainian security agencies for the attacks in Russia.
