Twitter will lift its ban on political advertising ”in the coming weeks”.

The platform revealed that it would be ”relaxing its ads policy for cause-based ads” in a Tuesday, adding that it would expand on which political advertising it would permit in the coming weeks.

This comes after Twitter banned political ads three-years-ago with then CEO Jack Dorsey asserting that political ads ”bring significant risk to politics”.

The move puts Twitter in-line with social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube which both allow the practice.

The decision is believed to have been made in order to raise the revenue for Twitter which has faced significant fiscal and organizational challenges since Elon Musk’s takeover.
