Mike Gabler, the winner of the latest season of the reality television show “Survivor,” has donated the entirety of his $1 million prize in support of veterans.
Gabler spend 25 days castaway in Fiji with 18 strangers. In the end, he was the last man standing. His win was historic for multiple reasons. He was the second oldest person to win the show and he is also the first person to donate all of his winnings.
Prior to winning the competition show, Gabler knew that he wanted to his donate prize in order to help veterans. He hopes that the money will help those who are struggling from psychiatric problems and PTSD. He also hopes that this prize money will help curb the suicide epidemic among veterans.
“Serving those who served us is very important to me,” Gabler said.
He is no stranger to those who have served. The winner has many friends have deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition, his father Robert Gabler, was a Green Beret.
The prize money was donated in his father’s name.
