The state of Maryland has legalized recreational marijuana.

On Tuesday, legislators in the Free State amended the State Constitution by approving the use of marijuana for those who are 21 and over.

Reportedly, many were happy with this decision because they claimed that the sale of cannabis allows for more tax revenue.

Those who opposed it fear that with the introduction of legal marijuana, the drug could eventually land in the hands of children.

19 states in the U.S. allow recreational marijuana use. 37 states permit medical use only.

The new law is to take effect next year July.
