The 700,000 square foot station is an $11.1 billion project. The construction, which took 14 years to complete, will connect the Long Island Railroad to Manhattan’s East Side. It’s the largest Long Island Rail Road expansion in 112 years.
“The future is 2022; this will be accomplished, completed in its entirety,” stated New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D). “No more dragging heels, no more putting it off, no more delays because people have been waiting a long time to have a world class experience when they board the trains at their home on Long Island.”
When the @LIRR was built, 37,000 people lived on Long Island. Today, 2.8 million New Yorkers call Long Island home.
