A recipient of the children’s charity award “Make-A-Wish” has chosen to feed the homeless.

According to reports on Thursday, 13-year-old Abraham Olabegi of Jackson, Mississippi refused to choose a material gift from Make-A-Wish, saying all he wanted was to make a lasting impact. The philanthropic foundation said for the next year it would help Abraham hand out food to the homeless every third Saturday of each month.

The foundation’s program gives kids the opportunity to choose something they have always wanted to do in order to bring them a little joy amid a serious illness. Abraham chose to use his award to give back to the less fortunate.

Abraham was born with a rare blood disorder and he recently received a successful bone marrow transplant. The teen has also founded his own non-profit organization called “Abraham’s Table.”

Abraham’s mom said in an interview that she recalled coming home from one of his doctor appointments when Abraham looked at her and said “I thought about it and I really want to feed the homeless.”

“When the homeless people get the plate, some of them would come back and sing to us and thank us,” Abraham said about his experience with his new non-profit. “And it just really feels good, it warms our hearts. And my parents always taught us that it’s a blessing to be a blessing.”
