A suspect is in custody in Portland, Oregon after allegedly stealing a car with a toddler in the back seat and it’s all thanks to the brave actions of bystanders. On Friday, Portland Police arrested 40-year-old Justin Hill after he allegedly stole a car with a 3-year old in the backseat.

The toddler was left in the car seat for a moment with the engine running in the front yard of a resident when the suspect sped off with the vehicle. The boy’s father chased after the suspect for several blocks, crashed his car into him and was able to retrieve his son who was not injured in the incident.

The father told passing motorists what had happened and that’s when T.P. Brown Junior sprung into action.

“I immediately floored it and pinned him against the fence, I asked him not to move until police get here,” explained the motorists. “At that point, he tried to climb the fence. I got out of my car and grabbed him and detained him.”

With the help of an on-duty Amazon driver, Brown Junior secured the suspect with a rope until authorities arrived on the scene to takeover. The suspect now faces several charges, including kidnapping in the second degree.

Brown Junior doesn’t consider himself a hero. Instead, he said the present times just call for people to look out for one another.
