The Department of Justice closed its case regarding the officer involved shooting of 30-year-old Jacob Blake. In a press release on Friday, the DOJ said it would not pursue federal criminal civil rights charges against Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer Rusten Sheskey.
In late August 2020, Blake was shot several times outside of his girlfriend’s home after his girlfriend reportedly called 911 over a domestic dispute. Sheskey allegedly began firing his weapon after seeing a knife fall out of Blake’s pocket.

The DOJ affirmed their investigators analyzed copious amounts of evidence and found Sheskey did not violate any civil rights law.
“The department makes this decision because the evidence obtained is insufficient to prove that the KPD officer willfully used excessive force,” the DOJ explained in a released statement. “…Accordingly, the review of this incident has been closed without a federal prosecution.”
The DOJ added representatives of the Blake family were informed of the decision to close the review case.
