Two of six families from southern California have returned home after being trapped in the chaos in Afghanistan. According to Thursday reports, there were still four families from the Cajon Valley School District trying to get back to the U.S.

It was reported on Wednesday, six families were stranded in Kabul in attempt to board military airplanes before the August 31 deadline. The families have a combined 23 students.

Officials for the district just outside of San Diego said the families were visiting relatives in Afghanistan and added the trip was not school sanctioned. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has been working hard to get the families home and has notified the White House, State Department and Pentagon.

“Joe Biden has let terrorists overrun our embassy, back us into a corner, and prevent our planes from flying our citizens home,” he stated on Twitter. “Unbelievable.”

Biden has maintained his August 31 withdrawal date.
