According to authorities, more than 10,000 Florida residents have received monoclonal antibody treatment. State officials announced the updated figure on Wednesday as the state set up a number of mobile clinics offering monoclonal antibody treatment to ease the strain on hospitals.
At least 18 treatment centers have been established statewide. More than 10,000 patients have been treated since the centers were erected on August 12.
Patients are able to receive the infusions for free as the state is distributing doses previously purchased with federal emergency funds. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) assured the treatment has been widely recognized as an effective option for early treatment of COVID-19.
He went on to insist residents should not be dissuaded from a treatment, which he said “could potentially not only keep them out of the hospital, but could actually save their lives.”
“Those who try to politicize COVID treatments are doing a disservice to those who may be deterred from seeking life-saving treatments,” he stated on Twitter. “Monoclonal antibody treatments have a proven record of reducing the need for hospitalization and are available free of charge to patients.”
