Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has officially ended speculation over a possible gubernatorial bid in Michigan. DeVos announced on Tuesday that she would not be running for governor, adding she never considered challenging Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

However, she went on to say the rumors and interests of people wanting her to run showed how desperate Michiganders are for new leadership.

“I am not running for governor. It’s not going to be me,” said DeVos. “I appreciate that some folks are interested in that, but I think the rumor and interest really only serves to highlight how desperate Michiganders are for new leadership.”

Meanwhile, Whitmer is facing several potential GOP challengers, including retired Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who is the latest candidate to launch their campaign.
