A federal judge in Washington state has ordered the post office to take “extraordinary measures” to deliver mail-in ballots.
Friday’s ruling specifically targeted ballot delivery in Wisconsin and Michigan, where ballots received after Election Day won’t be counted regardless of postmark date.
If any ballots are found during a sweep of the offices each day, every effort must be made to get the ballot delivered by Election Day.
A postal service spokesman said employees are authorized to use the express mail network, such as Priority Mail or First Class mail, to fast track the ballots.
The USPS will also do extra pickups and deliveries ahead of the election.
