The chairman and CEO of drug company Pfizer, Albert Bourla, said a coronavirus vaccine will not be rolled out to the public at the end of October unless its safe. He made those comments in an interview Tuesday.
Bourla broke with a comment the president made on Monday where he said a potential vaccine could be ready by next month. The CEO said drug companies need to be sure the vaccine is safe before giving it out.
“I don’t want to comment on what the president says,” he stated. “What I want to say is that in this pledge, all the companies are saying that we will only submit for authorization when we have evidence of safety and efficacy that are coming from a well-designed phase three study.”

Pfizer along with other U.S. and U.K. drug makers published a public letter Tuesday where they pledged to avoid shortcuts in the vaccine making process. That pledge comes as they face pressure to roll out a vaccine by year’s end.
