Boris Johnson recently defended his decision not to implement coronavirus testing at airports. According to the British prime minister, there are problems with its accuracy.

On Friday, Johnson claimed testing offers a “false sense of security and confidence” that people are free of the virus.

Airport testing was suggested by former Tory cabinet members to promote air travel. The industry has been struggling to stay afloat during the pandemic.

“Unfortunately, it only works in 7% of the cases. So 93% of the time, you could have a real false sense of security, false sense of confidence, when you arrive and take a test. That’s why the quarantine system that we have has got to be an important part of our repertoire, of our toolbox, in fighting COVID.” – Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Meanwhile, all travelers arriving in the U.K. must self-quarantine for 14 days, unless they’re coming from certain countries the country has determined are not a threat.
