The “Global Goal: Unite For Our Future” initiative, which was organized by Global Citizen and the European Commission, has raised nearly $7 billion to ensure widespread availability of coronavirus testing and treatments. On Saturday, world leaders stressed an eventual vaccine should be available to anyone who needs it.
The campaign also included a globally televised and streamed fundraising concert, which featured Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Shakira, Jennifer Hudson and others.

The money raised will also be used to support the world’s poorest and most marginalized communities.
“If and when an effective vaccine is found, wherever it’s found, whoever finds it, then we as world leaders have a moral duty to insure that it is truly available to all,” stated U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “This pandemic threatens every one of us.”
According to the president of the European Commission, this is what the campaign was all about: a stress test for solidarity.
