A majority of Twitter users have voted for Elon Musk to step down as the CEO of the social media platform in a poll he launched on the site on Sunday afternoon.
Musk posed the question after he faced continued scrutiny for his actions on Twitter. The CEO accused a college student, who had been tracking the location of Musk’s private jet, of being responsible for his son’s encounter with a stalker which was meant for Musk. Musk then went on to temporarily suspend the account for doxxing, however Musk soon brought back the account after critics claimed that it went against free speech, something that the Tesla CEO is a big advocate for.
Around 17.5 million users had taken part of the poll, with 57.5% voting ‘yes’ by the time it closed on Monday morning.
Many are questioning whether the billionaire will stand by the results and step down. Given his recent history of abiding by the results of polls he tweets out, and the recent plunge of the prices of SpaceX and Tesla stocks, most agree that he will likely step down. Musk recently purchased the company for roughly $44 billion in October.
Musk has not yet commented on whether he will step down, or who he would hire if he did. With his trend of being transparent about his actions on Twitter, many are expecting the announcement to come soon.
