Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is ramping up criticism of Joe Biden’s spending plans, saying America can not afford the so-called Build Back Better agenda. While talking to reporters Monday, the lawmaker from West Virginia said it would not be fair to pass the bill now and then come back looking for money to fund its provisions.

“My grandfather used to say unmanaged debt will make a coward out of the decisions you make and we’re now $29 trillion, we’ll be pushing on the $30 trillion…the Feds are going to make some decisions very soon,” Manchin stated.

His remarks came after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found Biden’s proposed bill would cost $4.9 trillion, which is way higher than Democrats claims it would. Manchin explained that this is not sustainable.

“And we’ve seen figures pretty high on that, and then the CBO came back and confirmed that, the CBO’s figure was even a little bit higher, I think it’s very sobering,” Manchin continued. “We’re gonna talk about exactly what happened on Friday with the CBO score and inflation reports and things of that sort…I’d like to hear the President’s first, where he’s at and what his concerns may be.”

The Democrat senators stressed it’s not fair to pass a bill that relies on temporary spending and would require more-and-more money down the road to fund its costly initiatives.
