British opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer is denouncing the hypocrisy of government officials who had a party at 10 Downing Street while recommending COVID lockdowns for citizens.

“Well, if the prime minister is going to allow breaking of the rules, parties, quizzes going on in Downing Street when we’re being asked not to see our loved ones, well why should I follow the rules?” he asked.

Starmer said Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is personally responsible for that scandal and he believes this is unacceptable.

“You know, we can argue all morning about what the rules should be, whether this measure is necessary or that measure is necessary,” he explained. “The critical question is: will the public follow the rules? And so, of course there is the question of what the conditions should be, but there’s also this basic question of trust and that is broken with the prime minister and that is why he is unfit for office.”

Johnson aide Allegra Stratton, who laughed when asked about that party, has been forced to resign while MP’s say they expect more resignations from the Johnson cabinet over the scandal.
