White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed a fully vaccinated White House official tested positive for COVID-19. The comments came during a press briefing on Tuesday, where Psaki said the official contracted the virus “off campus.”
The White House official, along with an aide for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), both tested positive despite both being fully vaccinated.
This comes after six Texas lawmakers, from the nearly 60 Democrats who went to Washington D.C., have reportedly tested positive for the virus. Reports mentioned at least one of the cases involving the two staffers could have been linked to the group of Texas Democrats.
“We certainly understand there will be breakthrough cases. Even vaccines that are incredibly effective are not fully proof,” Psaki stated. “They’re not 100% effective. We’ve seen that.”
There were always going to be breakthrough cases, and the vaccine was never primarily marketed as preventing infection. But 10% infection in ONE WEEK is an astounding number if you extrapolate expected infections based on that rate for this cohort over the next 6 months.

Meanwhile, Republican have been criticizing the Texas Democrats trip to the Capitol for what they say could be a “superspreader” trip.
