Our anchor @Elex_Michaelson asked Mayor Garcetti about the legality of this. Garcetti responded that these gatherings are breaking the law. He says this decision is “rooted in strong law” after consultation w/ city attorneys. “We know we can do this,” he says. @FOXLA

Some have questioned the legality of the move, but the mayor claimed these unauthorized large gatherings are just as dangerous as the already banned nightlife scene in the city.
“While we have already closed all night clubs and bars, these large house parties have essentially become night clubs in the hills. Many times, the homes are vacant or used for short-term rentals. Beyond the noise, the traffic, and the nuisance, these large parties are unsafe and can cost Angelinos their lives.” – Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles
Los Angeles County has recorded more than 197,000 coronavirus cases as of Wednesday.
