Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly dismissed an Inspector General interview request about the administration’s arms deal with Saudi Arabia.
According to reports Tuesday, Pompeo opted to answer written questions from investigators rather than take part in former watchdog Steve Linick’s interview. This comes as Pompeo has said he was not aware Linick was investigating him or his role in an executive order for the $8 billion weapons deal with Saudi Arabia last year.

The State Department chief confirmed Wednesday that he answered questions for Linick’s investigation, but maintained he had no idea about the nature or scope of the probe.
“I was asked a series of questions in writing, I responded to those questions with respect to a particular investigation that was sometime earlier this year as best as I can recall,” he stated. “I don’t know the scope, I don’t know the nature of that investigation other than what I would have seen from the nature of those questions presented.”
Pompeo stressed he could not have retaliated against Linick because he had no idea what he was investigating. The Inspector General’s probe about the arms deal was allegedly almost complete before he was fired by President Trump at Pompeo’s request last Friday.
