Ohio to begin reopening economy

Ohio is planning to begin reopening its economy over the course of the next month. Gov. Mike DeWine (R) laid out his multistage plan to ease lockdown restrictions in a coronavirus press briefing on Monday.

The state has been under lockdown since last month to mitigate the spread of the virus, which has had a significant impact on the economy. DeWine said he thinks Ohio residents are ready to begin repairing the economy.

“We’re Ohioans, we can do two things at once,” he stated. “We can get this economy moving back and at the same time continue to protect each other and protect our communities.”

Under his plan, medical facilities will be allowed to resume elective procedures on Friday. Construction and manufacturing will reopen next week, while offices in two weeks and retailers the week after that.

However, high-risk businesses like bars and restaurants will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
