First Deputy Mayor of New York City Sheena Wright officially resigned Tuesday, becoming the latest high-profile resignation in New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ sweeping federal corruption case.

Wright is expected to be replaced by Maria Torres-Springer, the city’s deputy mayor for housing.
She joins a large list of recent resignations in the Adams (D-N.Y.) administration, including her new husband, outgoing Schools Chancellor David Banks, who is also expected to step down in a matter of weeks, and his brother and close Adams ally Phil Banks, who resigned as deputy mayor on Sunday.
A spokesperson said that Wright will finish out her time until the end of the month.
“We are grateful for First Deputy Mayor Wright’s years of service to the city and all she has done to deliver for children, families, and working-class New Yorkers,” Adams said in a statement that was expected to be circulated on Tuesday. “She is an exceptional leader who assembled a strong team and constantly demonstrated a bold vision for this city.”
The departure comes just two weeks after federal prosecutors unsealed a historic five-count corruption indictment against the mayor.
Additionally, cell phones belonging to Wright and the Banks brothers including, Phil, David and a third brother, Terence were seized as part of the federal probe.
Multiple sources have claimed Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) has been working behind the scenes to fill the vacant spots, but won’t force Adams out before the November 5th election.
According to a recent poll by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, 69% of New York City residents want Adams to resign.
