On Monday, the co-chair of one of the world’s “largest private charities” announced that she would be resigning after co-founding the foundation over 20 years ago.

Bill and Melinda Gates filed for divorce back in 2021 after 27 years of marriage, but they both pledged to continue their philanthropic work together.

“Under the terms of my agreement with Bill, in leaving the foundation, I will have an additional $12.5 billion to commit to my work on behalf of women and families,” Melinda Gates said in a post on X.

The former couple also stated in 2021 that they had reached an agreement regarding how they would divide their assets. However, neither of them publicly disclosed the details.

“I am sorry to see Melinda leave, but I am sure she will have a huge impact on her future philanthropic work,” Bill Gates said.

Melinda said that this is not a decision she came to “lightly,” and her last day at the foundation will be on June 7th.
