Authorities announced that 39-year-old Albert J. Shell Jr. was taken into custody on Monday morning.

The shooting took place inside the Paddock Mall, just two days before Christmas.

40-year-old David Barron was killed in the shooting and a woman was injured.

Investigators believe that the attack may have been targeted.

“We know the victim had a prior relationship with Mr. Shell,” Chief Mike Balken of the Ocala Police Department said during a press conference. “There’s no reason to believe that this was anything other than a beef between two individuals that was resolved in a mall with a gun.”

Shell was located at a home about 20 miles southwest of Ocala, in an area called the Florida highlands around 1 AM on Monday morning.

He was surrounded and surrendered after two hours of negotiation with officers.

Authorities offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to Shell’s arrest.

Chief Balken said investigators received well over 100 tips in the case and the reward will be paid out.

“His criminal history alone tells me that he should never have been on the street to have been able to commit this crime,” Balken said. “We’re going to see to it that he spends the rest of his life behind bars.”

Shell now faces charges of premeditated first-degree murder for Barron’s killing, and attempted first-degree murder.
