On Tuesday, a Northwestern Local Schools District bus with 52 children on board crashed and overturned, causing one student to be ejected from the vehicle and killed. 23 other students were later transported to the hospital.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Tyler Ross, a Honda Odyssey vehicle was going east when it drifted left of center into the westbound lane where the school bus was.
The bus then reportedly tried to move onto the shoulder to escape the automobile but could not change lanes in time and still collided with the other car.
Following the collision, the school bus drove off the right side of the road and flipped over, while the Honda also drove off the right side of the road before coming to a stop.
The child who was ejected from the bus was pronounced dead at the scene.
13 children were taken to the hospital by first responders and 10 others by family members. Only one out of the 23 is said to have life threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Honda were taken to the Springfield Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Reports say that the bus driver only had a few minor injuries.
According to authorities, the case remains under investigation and family members of those involved in the crash have been notified.
