Sweden’s government has cleared a hurdle advancing its bid to join NATO.

On Friday, Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said Hungary’s government promised to not delay Sweden’s application into the Cold War era pact.

Hungary and Turkey have been the final two North Atlantic Treaty Organization [NATO] members to hold out on accepting Sweden’s bid. All 31-members need to agree in order to let new members into NATO. However, Turkey’s reluctance seems to be growing amid recent Quran burning demonstrations.

“I clearly want it to be known that as Turkey, we will not bow down to the politics of provocation and threats,” President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. “We will teach the arrogant Western people that it is not freedom of expression to insult the sacred values of Muslims.”

Sweden’s ratification is expected to be a big topic of discussion in the coming weeks. NATO leaders hope to get all members on board with adding a new member by its July summit in Lithuania.
