Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended North Miami Beach Mayor, Anthony DeFillipo, almost a week after he was arrested for voter fraud.

DeFillipo, 51, was arrested Wednesday for voting in three separate elections in 2022 while living in another location, using an address for a property he sold in 2021.
According to an order issued by DeSantis (R-Fla.), “Anthony F. DeFillipo II is prohibited from performing any official act, duty, or function of public office; from receiving any pay or allowance; and from being entitled to any of the emoluments or privileges of public office during the period of this suspension, which period shall be from today until a further Executive Order is issued or as otherwise provided by law.”
The executive order goes into effect immediately, prohibiting him from performing any official act, duty, or function and from receiving any pay or allowance while suspended.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office made the announcement last week that DeFillipo had been arrested making him the third mayor of North Miami Beach to be arrested in an 11-year span.
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said that her office used cell phone data to track DeFillipo’s driving. He was tracked from Davie to North Miami Beach, where he cast ballots to vote in three separate elections in August, October, and November.
“It wasn’t as if, ‘Oops, I forgot once,’ ” she said. “This is three times in rapid succession.”
DeFillipo has denied the allegations surrounding the questions about his residency and has repeatedly insisted that he lives in North Miami Beach. He admitted to purchasing a home in Davie, but insisted that it was for his family to live in due to marital issues he had been having.
Concerns over his residency has caused city commissioners to refuse to attend commission meetings in protest of DeFillipo. Last Month, the city commission voted to remove Michael Joseph because of his failure to attend a meeting in more than 120 days. Joseph is reportedly suing, hoping to regain his seat.
All of the three charges that DeFillipo is facing are third degree felonies, each punishable up to five years in prison.
