NASA released a report on Wednesday stating that a large asteroid has a small chance of impacting the Earth on February 14th 2046.

NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office reported that they have been tracking a 162-foot-wide asteroid that could hit the earth in approximately 20 years. The asteroid, named “2023 DW,” has been reported to be as wide as an NFL football field, or the size of an Olympic sized swimming pool.

NASA’s orbit analysts have said that the risk of the object impacting Earth remains “very small.” They have given the asteroid a 1 out of 10 chance of impacting Earth.

“Current calculations show the chance of collision is extremely unlikely with no cause for public attention or public concern,” according to the Torino Scale.

The agency says that it will continue to monitor the asteroid daily, and that the risk level is likely to decline as they gather more information.
