In a new comic from DC’s “The Man Who Stopped Laughing” series, the Joker becomes pregnant and gives birth to mutated version of himself.
In a new Detective Comics comic released on January 4th, the Joker wants an heir and pursues the sorceress Zatanna. When he is confronted by her, Zatanna casts a spell on him guaranteeing that no one will ever carry his offspring. The spell backfires and causes the Joker to become pregnant. The Joker ends up giving birth by vomiting on himself later on in the story.
During the story, the Joker is depicted with a pregnant belly, as well as being checked on gynecologically.
DC Comics is receiving major backlash for releasing this comic strip.
Most critics are voicing concerns about how the comic giant is sending the wrong messages to young children.
Users on Twitter are accusing DC Comics of trying to push LGBT-friendly narratives on their customers. This claim is backed by other decisions that the comic giant has made, which include making Robin and Superman gay.
The Joker, also known as The Clown Prince of Crime, is best known as the arch nemesis of Batman in Gotham City, occasionally making a cross over to other heroes and cities. He has been one of DC’s most iconic and popular villains, with multiple iterations of the character making it into big budget movies.
The biggest and most influential depiction of the character was the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the DC villain in 2008’s The Dark Knight. The movie earned the actor an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
This new comic is a drastically different direction from previous Joker stories such as “The Killing Joke” released in 1988, and is receiving mixed reactions from audiences.
Considered one of the best comic book stories of all time, “The Killing Joke” has been adapted into an animated movie which was released in 2016.
