A 25-year CNN executive has joined Project Veritas as an executive producer. During an exclusive interview released last week, Patrick Davis explained why he left CNN after giving “blood, sweat and tears” to the network. He told Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe a wide range of issues pushed him to leave CNN, but stressed the FBI raid against the homes of Project Veritas journalists was the final straw.

“Do you know what made me decide to come here? It was the FBI raid,” Davis explained. “I thought that it was the biggest abridgment to the First Amendment probably in, maybe the history of this country. For the FBI to go blowing into the doors of journalists, it was unheard of.”

Davis, who previously worked at CNN’s Washington bureau, said journalism has become more infotainment than real news and there is a strong need to return to ethical reporting. He believes it’s time to get back to the basics of journalism while noting media outlets need to tell the news without a spin. He added, “Americans can decide for themselves what to think.”

Davis emphasized the importance of objective reporting and how the field has taken a sharp turn in the opposite direction. He went on to criticize networks who claim to be middle of the road, but ultimately take a firm stance on one side of an issue while bashing the other. On investigative journalism, Davis said he’s hungry for journalists to dive in and examine what corporations and politicians are doing, not just relaying what they are saying at press conferences.

Meanwhile, the former executive condemned CNN for losing its way saying the network used to air unbiased news, but has since shifted to fit a certain narrative. Now that he’s with Project Veritas, Davis said he hopes to accomplish bigger things and investigate stories that tell the truth on issues.
