According to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the biggest threat to free speech is collusion between the government and private businesses.
In an interview Monday, the Republican explained the greatest threat to the First Amendment does not come from laws passed by Congress. Instead, McCarthy said many lawmakers are getting businesses to target their political opponents.
The California lawmaker then referenced GoFundMe’s freezing of donations to Canada’s Freedom Convoy as a very disturbing development in the fight for freedom.
“Where it’s really coming from is these politicians pushing these private companies to become government and utilize them just like their doing on the GoFundMe that the politicians are pushing because they don’t like what the truckers are doing,” said McCarthy. “You’ve watched time and time again what Google and others have done but they’re also protected by the government.”
The greatest threat to free speech today is not a law from Congress, which is bound by the First Amendment. The greatest threat is politicians who bully private companies to silence dissenting views. https://t.co/ngLgqQWA5U
