The Milwaukee Bucks recently received a congratulations from Joe Biden at the White House. Biden praised the team on Monday for their performance throughout the NBA season.

In addition, he applauded the Bucks for encouraging fans to get vaccinated and to vote in the 2020 election. The Bucks engaged in activism following the shooting of Jacob Blake in nearby Kenosha.

“You represented yourselves, your families, your organization and a great American city by staying true to who you are,” said Biden to the team. Biden said he was honored to welcome the Milwaukee Bucks to the White House to continue a tradition known since 1963, the first time an NBA championship team was asked to visit former President Kennedy.

NBA finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo also shared a few remarks.

“On behalf of my teammates, the coaching staff, the Bucks organization, we are very grateful for this opportunity. You know a kid from Sepolia, Athens, Greece,” said Antetokounmpo. “It’s an unbelievable opportunity to be able to be in the White House, meeting the president of the United States.”

The Bucks’ visit made them the first NBA team to visit the White House since 2016.
