One person is dead and nine others wounded in a shooting at a Halloween party in eastern Texas.
The Texarkana Police Department reported that gunfire broke out at the Octavia Event Center Saturday night, where more than 200 people were in attendance. Authorities said an unidentified 20-year-old male died at the hospital, while the injuries of the other nine appear to be non-life-threatening.
Officer Shawn Vaughn said the crime scene was so chaotic that the entire on-duty shift responded and another patrol shift was called in to handle other calls.
“When we got here, I understand there was a large crowd in the parking lot involved in several fights,” said Vaughn. “So, we requested assistance from everybody that was available.”
Police have identified the suspected shooter and have obtained an arrest warrant for Keuntae McElroy, 21. He fled the scene following the shooting, but eventually turned himself into authorities Sunday morning where he was arrested upon arrival.
A preliminary investigation revealed the incident may have resulted from a disturbance among partygoers.
