New reports are shedding more light on well-known Democrat lobbyist Tony Podesta’s involvement with Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei.
According to reports on Thursday, Podesta was paid $1 million by Huawei to promote them to the Biden administration. The amount is double what Podesta said he had received earlier this month in his third quarter lobbying report.
However, it has been found that he may have been given the $1 million in two separate installments across June and September. This comes as the Biden administration has been advised to keep Huawei on the trade blacklist.
One White House official said, “President Biden and this administration believe digital infrastructure equipment made by untrustworthy vendors, like Huawei, pose a threat to the security of the U.S., our allies, and our partners. Export controls against Huawei remain in place.”
Podesta notably played a major role in the Department of Justice’s bank fraud case against Huawei’s CFO over the summer. According to reports, Huawei has spent about $3.4 million on internal and external lobbyists this year alone.
