Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe has claimed critical race theory was “made up” to divide people. Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, McAuliffe suggested the theory has never been taught in Virginia and was only used as a political talking point for division.
McAuliffe’s comments followed earlier this summer when he referred to critical race theory as a “right-wing conspiracy theory.”
“I really hate to see the division, the hatred. We’re putting these children in this horrible position,” he stated. “Let’s just be clear, we don’t teach critical race theory. This is a made up, this is a Trump, Betsy DeVos, Glenn Youngkin plan to divide people.”
Terry McAuliffe lowered academic standards and wants to put government between parents and their kids’ education. The difference could not be more clear. Join our movement, and together we’ll restore Virginia’s academic excellence. ➡️ https://t.co/8qdCeFuhYq pic.twitter.com/6utWPQUwMP

Polls have shown the race between McAuliffe and Youngkin was tight, with some saying McAuliffe was polling at 50 percent and Youngkin at 47 perecent within the margin of error.
