The State Department was hit with a cyber attack amid rising tensions in Kabul. According to reports on Saturday, there were notices of a potentially serious breach at the agency recently issued by the Department of Defense Cyber Command.

It’s unclear when the breach was exactly discovered and if it had any impact on State Department operations. A spokesperson for the Department said the agency is taking steps to ensure information is protected, but added they are unable to release any more information at this time.

“The Department takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard its information and continuously takes steps to ensure information is protected,” said a State Department spokesperson.
