Four police officers have suffered injuries after a robbery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Reports said police responded to the incident on Thursday morning when officers exchanged gunfire with several suspects in a robbery gone wrong. The suspects have been detained with one shot and taken to a hospital.

Officials said one officer was hit in the chest above his vest and is described as being in critical condition. A second officer was shot in the arm and taken into surgery.

“We had a third officer who took a gunshot wound to the center of his bulletproof vest. The vest did save the officer’s life,” said Chief Harold Medina of the Albuquerque Police Department. “I think that’s the second time we’ve seen that in the metro area in the last month.

The final officer was reportedly hit by glass and debris. Witnesses told authorities they heard dozens of shots fired.

In the meantime, nearby schools were put under a shelter-in-place order as one suspect still remains at large. A manhunt is currently underway.
