Joe Biden is rolling back his campaign promise to create a police commission to oversee reformations in departments across the country.

Speaking with Politico on Monday, White House Director of Domestic Policy Susan Rice said the administration is focusing on legislative efforts. Rice claimed the decision came from discussing the possible commission with police unions and civil rights groups. She added both sides believed the commission was unnecessary and redundant.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki expressed a similar sentiment.

“We have a made a decision in coordination that the best path forward is to work to pass the George Floyd Policing Act that has a great deal of the content, of the policy changes, of the necessary reforms that we would like to see in place,” Psaki stated.

The Biden administration vowed to use their resources to get the George Floyd Policing Act passed through both chambers of Congress.
