Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said she fears Democrats will eventually jam through a one-sided infrastructure bill that would “devastate” American taxpayers.

While speaking with OAN Wednesday, the Republican lawmaker stressed how Democrats are considering using budget reconciliation to pass the legislation, which is predicted to cost trillions of dollars. While she hopes for a bipartisan deal, she thinks Republicans could be left out of talks like they were on COVID-19 relief.

“Now we’re talking about an infrastructure package and I had really high hopes for seeing us work in a bipartisan way on infrastructure,” Mace stated. “This should not be a Republican or Democrat issue, but they’re now talking about doing budget reconciliation for infrastructure and if it’s anything like budget reconciliation for the COVID package then Republicans aren’t gonna get any input or any say.”

Joe Biden campaigned on the idea of an infrastructure plan that would cost $2 trillion over the course of four years. In order to fund the plan, the administration is reportedly discussing tax hikes, private-public partnerships as well as fee increases for bridge and highway tolls.

Mace said she can’t think of a worse idea in the middle of the pandemic than to raise taxes. She has argued that Washington has “a spending problem, not a revenue problem.”

“It would be devastating…the worst possible idea that I could think of today is raising taxes on Americans during the middle of a pandemic,” stated the South Carolina lawmaker. “And that is exactly what the Biden administration is looking to do right now. ”

Despite Biden’s intentions, Mace predicts the tax hike will backfire. Mace noted, “when you read the fine print it will be much more expensive than previous increases.”

The Republican added, this is not the way to go forward or the way to put the U.S first, especially as Americans fight to regain economic freedom that was lost under Democrat-led lockdown orders.
