Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has continued to urge that Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) resign from his post.

On Tuesday, the Democrat leader made clear that New Yorkers need strong leadership, a role that, according to Schumer, can’t be fulfilled while Cuomo is under federal investigation.

This came after he joined Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and other fellow lawmakers from the Empire State who said the sexual harassment claims made against Cuomo are “credible.”

Cuomo is facing calls for resignations from some members of his own party as most leading Democrats signal they want to await the results of the attorney general’s investigation into claims the governor sexually harassed aides. “The women have come forward. I’m proud they have. They’ve made some serious allegations and they should be listened to,” Schumer stated. “Because the governor, because of these allegations, the governor has lost the confidence of his governing partners and of many New Yorkers, and he should step down.”

So far, seven women have come forward alleging the governor either sexually harassed or assaulted them. He is also still facing an investigation from the New York attorney general over his nursing home death cover-up scandal.
