Republican have said Joe Biden’s reopening plan is taking far too long. While speaking on the Senate floor Monday, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Biden’s goal of returning to relative normalcy by July 4 goes “out of step with science.” The Kentucky lawmaker noted, people are already able to gather in small groups without masks under current CDC guidelines.
McConnell added, the federal government does not have the authority to restrict the movement of its citizens and Biden’s statements prove his administration is out of touch with the American people.
“One year on, if the president and his administration want to continue to give advice to free citizens, I suggest they exit the alternate universe, stick to the actual science and get acquainted with where the American people actually are,” he stated.
McConnell condemned Democrat’s hypocrisy in supporting the Black Lives Matter mass protests last summer while also calling for mask-wearing and social distancing.
Meanwhile, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is fighting to hold a Fourth of July celebration at Mount Rushmore this year.

This comes just days after the National Park Services denied the governor’s request to have fireworks over Mount Rushmore similar to last year’s celebration. The service cited health and safety concerns as reasoning. On Monday, the Governor’s office said Noem is doing everything she can to make sure the show will go on.
