Some public elementary schools in Northern California have reopened for in-person learning after being shut down for months due to COVID-19.
On Thursday, a school in the city of Orinda, California welcomed back students with colorful signs. Other schools in the region had similar events to mark their reopening.
Teachers are incredible. We don’t give them enough credit.

However, officials put up signs reminding students, parents and staff to continue to wear masks, wash their hands and stay six feet apart.
“We have done so much work on safety protocols and we really trust our community to also follow the same guidelines,” a mother to one of the students said. “So there’s always a risk, but I feel confident that we’ll be okay.”
Amid reopenings in parts of California, health officials in Los Angeles County said elementary schools may reopen faster than teachers can be vaccinated.
