Vice President Mike Pence honored the life of the late Air Force brigadier General Chuck Yeager. On Friday, Pence gave an opening speech at Yeager’s memorial service in Charleston, West Virginia alongside his wife.
The group traveled aboard Air Force Two, bringing Yeager’s casket a step closer to his final resting place. In 1947, the West Virginia native became the first person to fly faster than sound.
During the ceremony, Pence highlighted Yeager’s decorated military career.
As long as Americans push the boundaries of what is possible, as long as we’re brave enough to push the envelope and as long as American pilots and astronauts soar “into the wild blue yonder” and beyond, the story, example, courage and life of General Chuck Yeager will inspire. pic.twitter.com/f9DMEsIwPk

“I know that as long as Americans push the boundaries of what’s possible, as long as we’re brave enough to push the outside of the envelope, and as long as American pilots and astronauts soar to the skies and the great beyond, the life, the example, the courage of General Chuck Yeager will ever inspire,” Pence stated.
Yeager died last month at the age of 97, leaving behind his wife and four children from a previous relationship.
