Freshman Rep.-elect Mary Miller (R-Ill.) responded to calls for her resignation after referencing Adolf Hitler a day before the events that took place on Capitol Hill.

Friday, Miller issued an apology for her comments during a “Mom’s for America” rally on Capitol Hill. She explained some were “twisting her words,” adding that she is “pro-Israel’” and “an ally to the Jewish community.”

Miller was caught on camera saying “Hitler got one thing right,” crediting him with the phrase “whoever has the youth has the future.”

The mention triggered immediate backlash, including from her state’s governor.

“Let me be clear, Hitler got nothing right,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-Ill.) said. “This reprehensible rhetoric has no place in our politics. Republicans cannot allow this to stand, and must condemn this vile evil streak in their party.”

Despite Miller’s apology, calls for her to resign continue.
